Operation Scramble and Tackling Anti-Social E-Bike Use in Chessington |

|
Dear ward members, For your information, many residents will have seen recent coverage of Surrey Police's Operation Scramble, which focuses on tackling the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes, Surron-style bikes, e-scooters and motorcycles. We are working closely with neighbouring forces and will continue to monitor any displacement of offenders across borough boundaries.
More importantly, I wanted to highlight the positive work already taking place here in Chessington.
Following concerns raised by residents, we successfully bid for and secured dedicated Met Traffic motorcycle units to support enforcement activity across all wards covered by Chessington SNT. Notable locations specific to the Traffic Teams tasking were locations such as; King George's Field, Sunray, Tolworth Court Farm, North Parade, Churchfields Rec, Green Lane, Garrison Lane, King Edwards Rec, Knollmead, and surrounding areas. This followed successful funding bids and partnership work to ensure additional resources were available where they were needed most.
The results have been very encouraging: ✅ Several illegal e-bikes and Surron-style motorcycles have already been seized.
This enforcement work will continue, and we remain committed to tackling those who use these vehicles irresponsibly and put others at risk. While many people use e-bikes lawfully, we will continue to take robust action against those using illegally modified bikes, riding dangerously, or engaging in anti-social behaviour.
Thank you to everyone who has reported incidents and provided information to us. Your reports help us identify hotspots, direct resources effectively and achieve results. Chessington Safer Neighbourhood Team
